Scholarship Program Overview
Parks and recreation facilities and programs are vital to a community’s well-being and improve the quality of life for people around them. Everyone should have the opportunity to participate in organized recreation activities, unfortunately, not everyone can afford it. Our scholarship program offers financial assistance to District residents who qualify to use District facilities and allow them to participate in recreation programs offered by the District.

Application Process
Residents must have a current resident ID card before submitting a request form. The form is available to download below, hard copies are available at District facilities. The request form must be completed and returned to the registrations 3 weeks prior to the start of the requested program. Once the form has been processed they applicant is notified by U.S. Mail concerning the approval or denial of their request. If their request is denied the letter will state the reason why it was denied. If their request was approved the letter will include the amount they owe and instructions on where to take their letter and payment. The scholarship payments are processed at the Athletics Office or the Registration Office.

Financial Guidelines
To qualify for a scholarship the applicants must have a gross monthly household income below the amount allowed for the size of their household. Applicants are asked to provide us with their monthly household income including any assistance they are receiving. The request form lists examples of the type of assistance programs that they would need to list. The financial guidelines are the same for the Recreation Money program. If an applicant cannot afford the scholarship fee they are referred to the Recreation Money program through Integrated Family Services (IFCS) or Arapahoe County Social Services. The guidelines are updated annually.

Income Verification
It is our understanding that when the program was created the Board of Directors asked that we do not require additional proof of an applicant’s financial situation. Currently we only ask for additional proof if we have reason to believe that the applicant is not being forthcoming with the information they have provided. Additional requests for financial information are determined by the Registration Supervisor who may require additional input from program or facility supervisors. Applicants may be asked to provide documentation for the following assistance programs:

  • Aid to Families with Dependent Children
  • Supplemental Security Income
  • Supplemental Security Disability Insurance
  • Reduced Lunch Program
  • Subsidized Housing
  • Food Stamps
  • Child Support
  • Unemployment benefits

Scholarship Fees
The majority of program fees are discounted by 50% but there are exceptions. The Registration Office staff works with the various program coordinators to ensure that we are charging the correct amount. At minimum the direct cost of the program should be covered. Scholarships are not available for programs costing less than $20. Programs with fees between $20 and $30 will be discounted by a maximum of 25%. Facility passes are discounted by 50% and awarded to either an individual or a household. Scholarship passes are valid for 3 months.
